1969

(Subtitle: Dream Is Over)

The project started at Twickenham Film Studios from January 2, 1969 to produce a documentary film that shot the entire process of making an album with the intention of returning to the starting point. The shoot was directed by Michael Lindsey-Hogg, and Grin Johns was commissioned as an engineer. Martin had a duty to be a producer, but Johns recounts that he didn't actually do the job of being a producer, sometimes only visiting the scene to check equipment.
The state of this session was also recorded monaurally by a documentary shooting team on TV with a Nagra tape recorder, and it was recorded on about 500 (each tape is 16 minutes) commonly known as "NAGRA tape", but the TV program itself is a bot It has become. Nevertheless, this tape is publicly known and the whole picture is revealed. As a result, the session that was interrupted with George's withdrawal in mid-January moved to Apple Studios (Savile Law) and invited Billy Preston as a guest, which was successful and legendary on the rooftop of the building. The finale at the rooftop concert.

After that, the sessions continued intermittently, but at the end of January, Johns had informed John and Paul of the album concept proposal (recording the album at Apple Studio). It seems that they were rejected at that time, but they say that they received a request phone call from two people on May 1. As a result, "GET BACK SESSION" is marked with the end of January, and Johns is in the process of producing the album "GET BACK".

For GET BACK SESSION, refer to the individual song information “Recording” tab.
Please refer to "Overview" of "GET BACK AND OTHER SONGS" regarding the album "GET BACK".

Darkness of'Cold Turkey'

After the getback session, I recorded " I Want You (She's So Heavy)" in late February. At this time, it was possible that it was work related to the getback session because Grin Johns was using the Olympic Studio as a producer or engineer.

However, the recording process was interrupted and Paul married Linda and John married Yoko. It may be a matter of showing things, but John's activities will be more of a Yoko right away. After the honeymoon (late March), I finished the The Ballad Of John And Yoko, which wrote the pattern in a diary style, and is recording even though George and Ringo were absent.

Just before the recording, Get Back , which was being prepared as the next single, is in agony. Paul is not happy with the mix Martin has prepared and demands remixing. Is Martin out of patience (maybe it just offended him), or he abandoned the work related to "GET BACK", and only Grin Johns takes over. It seems that the vocal of
Don't Let Me Down was replaced. George's vocals have disappeared, John's vocals have become W tracks, and the original intent to eliminate overdub has not been reached since the first release. If this original is included in the "LET IT BE" sound source scheduled for this autumn, it may be interesting to show the comparison sound source before and after replacement!

John is only interested in The Ballad Of John And Yoko , and three days after releasing Get Back , he recorded the next single song, and recorded George's song Old Brown Shoe for B side .
What is worrisome is that there seems to have been a problem here as well. Martin entrusted the production to Chris Thomas halfway through, and the name has since disappeared from the Beatles recordings. Paul's appeal to Martin before the "ABBEY ROAD" session may be related to what happened at this time, not to "WHITE ALBUM". Ringo was absent in any of the songs, and he might have opposed the idea of making it a single.

Later in early May, I Want You (She's So Heavy) was recorded as the lead song for the later "ABBEY ROAD", including You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) . .. The recording during this period could make various hypotheses because the purpose was not clear, but because the producer was Chris Thomas, it was an "unreliable (or unreliable) album session". right.
At this point, all that is certain is the testimony that Grin Johns received a call from John and Paul on May 1st.
According to Johns, the album concept proposed at the end of January was adopted and an album was produced using the session sound source at Savile Law in January. In other words, the end of January is added to the get back session here .
This work is done at the Olympic Studios and begins the next day with three days of mixing work that continues until the end of May.

Later, John's departure accelerates.

At the end of May, the second bed-in was held in Montreal, recording'Give Peace A Chance' on 6/1. It was released under the name of Plastic Ono Band, but credited by Lennon & McCartney. John has been asked to Kyapen song to run for from the time Timothy was participating as a member of the Plastic Ono Band in Leary (American psychologist) to the California governor election, here after the Come together Develop into.

The above-mentioned The Ballad Of John And Yoko was finished with Paul, but the composer's partner changed to Yoko. The anecdote created because of Yoko's influence is famous, but Paul points out the influence of Yoko also in the lyrics.

At the beginning of the "ABBEY ROAD" session, he was absent due to a car accident, but the problem is the photograph on July 23. It seems that John brought in'Cold Turkey' when the recording of Come together was completed and he chose the next song . Reference: Toronto 9/13 There is anecdotal evidence that'Cold Turkey' was against the members during the'ABBEY ROAD' session, even if the photo was a different song . It seems that this is the first time that John's self-confidence work was rejected by the Beatles, and it is speculated that this day was John's turning point. After the recording of "ABBEY ROAD", a meeting (9/8) of three people except apples has been held. John also mentions credits, and is proposing to eliminate a co-authorship name that doesn't fit the reality, without mentioning'Give Peace a Chance' (released in July under the name of Plastic Ono Band). This is also a declaration to make'Cold Turkey', which will perform live five days later (9/13), a single name, and although it was rejected by the members, it would be at least sincere to tell in advance. At the end of this meeting John is active as a plastic ono band. As a result, You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) becomes that of the Beatles. And the fact is stranger than the novel! Ringo participated in the recording of'Cold Turkey' as a member of the plastic ono band on September 25th, and George as a member of the plastic ono band at'PEACE FOR CHRISTMAS' concert on December 15th'Cold Turkey' ' Is playing live. After all, only Paul didn't participate in this song.

In this way, even if I tried to subvert the myth, it can be said that after all, it is roughly correct.
